AES-128 or SAMPLE-AES HLS encryption protects video from casual segment downloading. Set the key on a video, a project or a channel — your own or a generated one, rotated in one click.
Downloading the segments isn’t enough.

Your key or a generated one
KID, key and IV — 32 hex characters each, or the “Generate key” button.
Key rotation
“Rotate key” issues a new version. Players holding the old key stop playing until the page reloads.
Default for a project
A project’s encryption applies to all its videos that inherit it.
Channel key
A 24/7 channel has its own key: segments are encrypted on the fly, so encrypted and plain videos can share one air.
Together with signing
With signed links, a private video won’t open without a token, and the player gets the encryption key only with the same signature.
One key for the whole air.
A channel has its own key — per-video encryption settings are ignored. Segments are encrypted on delivery, so the programme can hold any videos.
- Encrypted and plain videos play in one air under one channel key.
- The channel’s method and key can only be changed while it’s off — viewers’ streams never break.
- Channel access is its own too: password, private link, domain-restricted embed.
This is not DRM.
ClearKey is obfuscation: the key is delivered to the player. It’s good protection against casual downloading, but no substitute for DRM systems like Widevine or FairPlay — dodocast doesn’t have those.
Protects against
Downloading segments by direct link and stitching a file together without the key. With signed links — against sharing the link with outsiders.
Doesn’t protect against
Screen recording and deliberate player hacking. For that there’s a watermark — it stays in every frame.
