SolutionsHosting & playerBackground video

Video behind your site. With one link.

Pick a segment of your video and dodocast builds a short silent clip for your site’s hero or any block: an MP4 at a permanent link, a separate phone file and a poster. No player, no ads, with ready-made code for your site.

Background video

A backdrop clip, not a player.

01 / CLIP

From your own video

Pick one of your processed videos and a segment from 1 second to 10 minutes. Start and end frames are shown, so the loop lines up.

02 / MP4

One MP4 by link

A silent clip on a loop: autoplay, muted, loop. No player, no buttons, no ads — just the picture behind your text.

03 / PHONE

Phone file

Next to the 720p main file, a lighter 480p file is built — narrow screens get it automatically.

04 / POSTER

Poster

A still frame is built with the clip. If the browser won’t start the video — in power-saving mode or with a blocker — visitors see the poster.

05 / REPLACE

Replace without touching the site

Rebuild the background from another segment or video — the link stays the same and sites get the new clip within a minute.

06 / DOMAINS

Only on your domains

List up to 50 domains, including *.example.com, so the background isn’t shown on other people’s sites.

Build

A segment, a quality — done.

The background is built from a video already in your library: choose the segment, the quality and whether you need a phone file. While it rebuilds, sites keep getting the previous clip.

  • Clips up to 60 seconds are built for free; longer ones cost the transcoding price or come out of your plan’s minutes. The cost is shown before you start.
  • Quality comes from what your plan and the source video allow; 720p is usually enough.
  • The source video doesn’t change: the background is a separate object with its own code.
Embedding

Ready-made code in the console.

The Embedding tab has the code for your site: a block with the video in the background, a dimming layer so text stays readable and a spot for your headline. Copy and paste.

  • Code for your site — a plain video tag with the phone file and the poster.
  • A player page for iframes — for site builders that only accept an iframe; clicks pass through it to your content.
  • Direct links to the MP4 and the poster are permanent: replacing the clip doesn’t require editing the site.
Preview

See it on a site — before it’s on yours.

The “Preview” button opens a demo page: your background on a mock website in four views. Share the link with your designer.

Analytics and traffic

How often it loaded and what it costs.

A background has its own analytics: loads, traffic and unique devices, countries, devices and the sites that show it. The traffic estimator works out the volume per visitor and per month in advance.

  • A load is every delivery of the clip; backgrounds have no watch time.
  • The breakdown by file shows how many visitors got the phone file.
  • The console’s advice: 10–20 seconds is usually enough — a shorter clip means less traffic.
Honestly

What a background can and can’t do.

YES

Can

A silent looping MP4, a phone file, a poster, replacement without editing the site, domain restriction, load and traffic analytics.

NO

Can’t

Sound, HLS or adaptive quality, choosing the poster or cropping. For direct links the domain restriction only checks the request’s source — protection against casual reuse on another site; for the iframe it’s a full restriction.

Plans. Background videos: Starter — 1, Pro — 10, Business — 50; each one over the limit is $1. Background traffic and storage count toward your plan’s limits.

How to set it up

Three steps in the console.

01

Create a background

“Background videos” → “Create”: give it a name, say “Home page header”.

02

Build it from media

Choose a video, a segment and a quality — the clip is built in minutes.

03

Add it to your site

The Embedding tab: copy the code for your site. Check the look in “Preview”.
